"ENGAGING IN THE FUTURE" - Unleashing the potential of an engaged team

Over the last three years we have focused much of our research and development activities on the line manager's critical role in creating an environment where individuals choose to engage with the business (see July Newsletter).

However, this in itself is not enough to sustain high-performing Team Engagement. So what are the additional criteria for such a team?

We would suggest that there are two:
  • Generating an outcome that is greater than the sum of its parts.
  • Delivering operational effectiveness (running the business) and change capability (transforming the business)
For us, capitalising on Team Engagement and achieving these two criteria can't be better demonstrated than when a team:
  • Accepts its mandate - together
  • Sees its future - together
  • Creates its future - together
One approach that delivers all three in a creative and exciting new way is our "Back from the Future" Team Development Workshop. For more information on how this can be tailored to teams within your organisation, please click here for our "Back From The Future" document.

We have also designed a workshop for Line Managers and other Development Specialists who might want to run such an event "in-house". For more information, please contact Sue Bell at sue@wadenhoeconsultancy.com.
DEVELOPMENT CENTRES - just "one moment in time?"

As an organisation with over 20 years experience in this field, we've been doing some research to explore people's experiences of less reliable and robust processes. Here are some quotes:

"We were just thrown in the deep end with no real explanation"

"They called it a Development Centre, but the whole focus was on Assessment"

"Speaking to colleagues on the workshop afterwards, it appears that we all got very general, rather "woolly" feedback, without any clear messages about future potential

"Some of the exercises were completely inappropriate for someone like me from a technical background - it wasn't an even playing field"

Reaching full potential in any pursuit involves:

Preparation, Warm-up, Goal Focus, Review and Improvement Plans.

Yet, many Development Centres, however well-intentioned, are just "one moment in time" - appropriate for some people, with a certain learning style, psychometric profile and background, but not others.

If the aim is to find real talent from everywhere in the organisation, then no one should be disadvantaged.

Our solution - an open process that addresses both Assessment and Development and is a totally integrated ensuring that everyone:
  • Gets the very best opportunity to demonstrate their full potential.
  • Is absolutely clear about what the outcome means for themselves and their organisation.
  • Leaves with a challenging development plan and the means to manage it for themselves.
